External Moodle: Overview

Overview

(eMoodle) UniSA External Moodle provides an online environment for the delivery of non-award courses offered by UniSA. Courses may be for professional development, general interest or to experience using the UniSA online environment for study.
Some courses are open and anyone can enrol. Others are restricted to certain groups or organisations and access is via a link that will be emailed to participants from the course facilitator.
Participants who aren't UniSA staff and students will need to create an External Moodle account prior to enrolling in courses.
Resources on this site provide instruction on how to create an External Moodle account, enrol in courses and login.

Underage Participants in External Moodle

Participants in UniSA External Moodle will need to be 15 or over to create an account or, alternatively, they will need parent or guardian permission, this can be given by emailing TIU@unisa.edu.au.

The blur between public and private expression can potentially put an underage participant at risk in two main ways:

Content

Content which is uploaded online can be copied, altered and reposited by anyone and it is very difficult to ‘take back’ what may be later regretted. Underage participants who create or post inappropriate, offensive or even illegal content on UniSA External Moodle web pages could get them into trouble with their school, friends and even the police, depending on the nature of the material. Young people also risk being exposed to content which is intended for older users when they use sites that are not designed for people their age.

Contact

Any organisations operating online services are not allowed to collect personal information without parental permission. The rules around age relate to privacy, but are also are relevant to safety by supplying a fake age young people can potentially lose some of this protection. Underage participants need to be aware of how much personal information they upload onto these sites. Posting or chatting about personal details might enable someone to identify and contact the underage person online or in person.
