Academic Integrity Learning Modules

UniSA has licensed academic integrity learning modules for staff and students from Epigeum, an educational organisation originally founded by Imperial College London, and now owned by Sage Publishing. Epigeum works collaboratively with subject matter experts around the world to produce evidence-based learning resources aimed at the core activities of universities – studying, research, and support and wellbeing.

The Epigeum Academic Integrity Learning Modules (EAILMs) for staff and students aim to provide a common understanding of the positive values of academic integrity and how to identify and demonstrate integrity in academic practice. These newly updated modules for 2024 include discussions about the use of artificial intelligence.

Epigeum Academic Integrity Learning Modules for Staff

The Epigeum Academic Integrity Learning Modules (EAILM) for Staff are designed for anyone in higher education whose work supports teaching, learning, and assessment. This includes policymakers, academic managers, course and unit coordinators, tutors, markers, and academic staff, such as academic developers, learning designers, and student learning advisors. They are general in nature and do not include UniSA-specific policies and procedures.

Content Overview

There are four learning modules that include audio and video as well as interactive elements designed to help participants apply their learning to authentic scenarios and reflect on academic integrity in their contexts.

Each module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Participants have the option to complete the additional quiz activities to obtain a certificate as evidence of their academic integrity knowledge. Every module has its own quiz, and each quiz must be completed with a score of 100% to unlock the related completion certificate. There are unlimited attempts allowed on each quiz.

Accessing the staff modules

Interested staff can self-enrol via the Moodle course site. 

All academic and professional staff are encouraged to undertake the four modules (EAILM) for Staff program at their own pace. Participants can save and resume their work in any of the modules.

Learning modules for students

The Epigeum Academic Integrity Learning Modules (EAILM) for Students aim to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with up-to-date learning resources on academic integrity that go beyond referencing scenarios and exam behaviour to exploring academic integrity in study, preparation, and working with peers and artificial intelligence. Please note that they are general in nature and do not provide UniSA-specific information. The Student Engagement Unit provides an Academic Integrity Module to help students understand UniSA's Academic Integrity Policy and associated Academic Integrity Procedure.

Accessing the student modules

The EAILM for Students are managed by the TIU and available via a learnonline Moodle course. As with the Staff site, students self-enrol to gain access.

The completion certificates are stored in the Certificate activity on the learnonline Moodle course site. Students receive a PDF copy with a unique verification code via email.

If staff wish to ensure their students have completed the assigned modules and wish to store copies of student learning certificates in an individual course or program site, they can set up a Moodle Assignment activity to which students can upload PDF copies of their certificates.
