Employment types

Generally the employment types recognised at the University of South Australia are:

  • Continuing – Employment for the ordinary hours of work per week (may be performed on a part-time fraction) with no fixed end date. All employment other than fixed-term and casual employment is seen as continuing employment.
  • Fixed-term contract – Employment for a specified period, the applicable industrial instrument specifies the conditions in which a fixed term contract may be offered.
  • Casual – A person engaged by the hour and paid on an hourly basis. Please refer to the applicable industrial instrument for the principles of casual employment.
