Supporting a diverse and inclusive workforce

The University of South Australia aspires to be an inclusive organisation where diverse high performing talent flourishes and we are all empowered to do our best work.

We celebrate uniqueness and foster inclusion as the driver of innovation and change.

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework supports the translation of the University’s commitment to action, through participation, excellence, safety, and respect.

The Framework is guided by the following principles:

  • a human rights and social justice approach to inclusion
  • equal access to opportunities
  • the elimination of barriers to participation; and
  • creating environments where individuals have an active voice to drive change in our UniSA community

UNISA'S EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION FRAMEWORK

Our areas of focus and resources

UniSA was the first South Australian University to adopt a formal Statement of Reconciliation (1997). As we look ahead, we are reaffirming our intent to be a University of Choice for Aboriginal Peoples in South Australia and beyond.

At UniSA we recognise our role and responsibility in creating a culturally safe, respectful, and empowering environment for Aboriginal Peoples. We work to recognise and respect diversity of Aboriginal Peoples and special connections to Country and Place.

At UniSA we value the contribution that people with disability bring to our workforce and we aspire to create an inclusive and equitable environment that supports full access and participation in all aspects of the university community. We actively work to identify and remove attitudinal, social and physical barriers that people with disability face, acknowledging that people with disability are best placed to understand their own individual needs.

We take a social model approach to disability inclusion and we are committed to upholding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and to meeting our obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.

If you have further questions or would like to discuss your specific circumstance, please contact the Strategic People Partnering Team.

UniSA seeks to maintain a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all our staff and students are respected.

This commitment is underpinned by the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, which makes it unlawful to treat people less favourably than another person in a similar situation because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status. We actively support a workplace environment that is safe, supportive, and inclusive of the LGBTIQA+ community and strive to ensure that everyone is comfortable and empowered to be their full self at work.
